The Butterfly Effect refers to the scientific theory that a single occurrence, no matter how small, can change the course of the universe forever. One small butterfly does not seem to cause a big impact but this installation, consisting of 20.000 lasercut butterflies, transforms the entrance of the ship completely. The colony of butterflies welcomes the visitors with the flapping of their wings. Each individual insect has been lasercut out of old X-ray photos which defines the pattern of the wings.
In addition to the lasercut butterfly installation Isaac Monté presents the ‘Crystal’ series, a result of his research into stalagmites, one of the greatest natural wonders. The objects are the result of the natural crystallization of minerals and the influence of the designer on the formation process, which can take up to several weeks.
