The ‘Craft-Techmen Project’ suggests a series of repairable home appliances. Often home appliances are discarded when they are broken. Kodai Shimizu implemented sewing as a method to create toggle switches for several home appliances. By rotating a specific part of the device, the conductive threads sewn inside the device, are adjusted to different levels of contact. This causes voltage variation. The conductive threads facilitate disassembly for repair while adding new functionalities. This simple system can be adapted to various functions by reprogramming the microcomputer.
