Studio Caterina Tioli
As a research-based designer, Caterina Tioli looks for specific elements in our society that are connected to a story that can be investigated and rediscovered.
At OBJECT, she will present Rinse off. In the textile industry, starch has been used as a temporary stiffener for centuries. It is applied to clothes, or on fragile yarns to ease the weaving process. Inspired by the industrial process of textile production, Caterina maximizes the potential of starch by applying it directly on the untwisted wool and rinsing it off at the end of the weaving process. Her work makes it possible to have a more direct contact with the raw beauty of the material. Also, it draws attention to forgotten production methods that can inspire a sustainable design.
