Much of Dominique’s work as a visual artist, deals with the identity of contemporary urban cultures. Her points of departure are their discarded materials, sounds, language, symbols and rituals. She arrived at the totem as a form for exploring these ideas. ‘Can I give a totem a new language and a new identity in the canon of modern sculpture?’
At the moment she is making a series of small-scale works using plastic debris which she finds on different beaches in Europe. Re-contextualising the plastic soup which we read so much about demands that these “Treasures” become unexpected statements of beauty.
